CARDIFF MAN JAILED AFTER SERIES OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND DEATH THREATS
A man has been prohibited from entering all areas of Cardiff following a series of criminal offenses, including persistent abuse of his former partner.According to Cardiff Magistrates' Court, Jay Slade, aged 46, appeared outside his ex-partner's residence threatening to kill her, just one day after avoiding jail time for assaulting her.
Previously, on April 24, Slade assaulted his ex by physically beating her, which resulted in a community order.
On June 21, he was detained for being intoxicated and disorderly at Ninian Park Road, Riverside, and released on bail the same evening.
The next day, he assaulted his ex-partner again.
The day after that, he received an eight-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, along with a restraining order.
However, the following morning, Slade violated the order by approaching his ex's address on Tudor Street, shouting threats and demanding she come outside or he would kill her.
Police responded and arrested him shortly thereafter.
Though he initially denied harassment and breaching the restraining order, he pleaded guilty when his trial was scheduled to commence.
The court noted that Slade had a criminal record comprising 20 previous offenses.
Judge Harmes sentenced him to 26 weeks in prison, which activated his suspended sentence, and imposed an additional 34 weeks.
A 10-year ban was also issued, prohibiting him from contacting his ex-partner and from entering Cardiff city.
The court acknowledged that Slade, who is currently residing at a homeless shelter in Butetown, is not originally from Cardiff and has no connections to the city beyond his relationship with the victim.
The judge emphasized that a city-wide ban was necessary to protect her, and stated that other authorities would be responsible for housing Slade following his release from incarceration.
