JAY BEZER BUCKLAND PERVERT SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR ABUSING YOUNG PORTSMOUTH BOY

In August 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Jay Bezer, a man from Buckland, who was convicted of abusing a young boy from Portsmouth. The incident, which took place during the summer of that year, has left a lasting impact on the victim and his family.

Bezer, aged 31 at the time, faced a jury at Portsmouth Crown Court where he was found guilty of the charges after a trial. Despite his denial of any wrongdoing, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a conviction. The court sentenced Bezer to three years in prison, a decision that the family of the young victim welcomed as a measure of justice.

Following the sentencing, the mother of the boy spoke openly about the profound emotional and psychological toll the abuse has taken on her child and their entire family. She described how her son has been suffering from severe trauma, including frequent sleepless nights and episodes of crying himself to sleep. The mother expressed her distress over the fact that Bezer was still able to walk the streets freely, which added to their anxiety and fear.

She emphasized the importance of the jury’s verdict, stating, “It’s had a huge impact on my child, and us as a family. My child has had lots of sleepless nights where he’s cried himself to sleep and couldn’t understand why Bezer was able to walk the streets. Thankfully justice was served as all 12 jury members found him guilty.”

Her account also revealed the ongoing challenges they face in trying to maintain a sense of normalcy. She explained that they often have to carefully assess whether it is safe to go out as a family, fearing that Bezer might be nearby. The trauma has led to her son being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and he is currently undergoing therapy to help cope with the emotional scars. The mother admitted that she herself has had moments of emotional breakdown, often crying herself to sleep, while striving to remain strong for her child.

She recounted her emotional experience in court, describing how she was overwhelmed when the judge announced the sentence. “Sitting in court listening to the sentence, I didn’t realize it was going to go so much into what actually happened. I completely broke down, it was just horrific to hear.”

Details of the abuse came to light when the young boy confided in his mother, revealing that Bezer had assaulted him during a day in the summer of 2019. Bezer, who was previously known to reside on Agincourt Road in Buckland, was identified as the perpetrator.

In her statement, the mother praised the police for their professionalism and support during the investigation, especially given the current climate of resource cuts. She expressed gratitude for the respectful treatment they received and acknowledged the importance of the support services available to victims of such crimes.

As part of his sentence, Bezer is required to register as a sex offender for life and is subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. This order restricts his contact with children and aims to prevent any further harm.
