JASPAL SINGH SENTENCED IN BRADFORD FOR RAPE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST PROSTITUTE

In a harrowing case heard at Bradford Crown Court, a woman who was a victim of sexual assault took desperate measures to escape her attacker by leaping out of a window. The incident involved Jaspal Singh, a 31-year-old man from Bradford, who was found guilty of raping a woman and was subsequently sentenced to a term of seven years and two months in prison.

According to court proceedings, Singh had lured a 40-year-old woman, who was working as a prostitute, to a property located in Flockton Grove, East Bowling, Bradford. The court was told that the assault occurred after Singh paid her £30 for sex. However, what began as a consensual encounter quickly turned violent and aggressive. Singh used verbal threats and physical violence, exerting considerable force on the woman. Judge David Hatton QC condemned Singh for his conduct, highlighting that he employed unnecessary violence and threats that instilled such fear in the victim that she felt compelled to escape by jumping out of a window to avoid further harm.

The judge emphasized that although there was a previous consensual arrangement between Singh and the woman, he then forcibly assaulted her against her will. He underscored the importance of recognizing that women involved in sex work have the same rights and feelings as any other women, and their autonomy must be respected.

Prosecutor Mark McKone detailed the assault, stating that Singh initially paid the woman for sex but then became aggressive, slapping her and threatening her with a clenched fist. The terrified victim managed to escape through a window and immediately contacted the police. She reported suffering both physical injuries and emotional trauma, including weight and hair loss, difficulty sleeping, and persistent fears that continued months after the incident.

Singh’s criminal history includes four previous convictions for indecent assault, notably including a 2001 incident involving a prostitute. In light of his conviction, the court ordered Singh to register as a sex offender indefinitely. Additionally, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed, restricting him from having contact with female prostitutes to prevent further harm.

Judge Hatton’s sentencing reflects the severity of Singh’s actions and the ongoing impact on the victim, emphasizing the importance of accountability and protection for vulnerable individuals in society.
