STANLEY MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON EX AND PROPERTY DAMAGE

A man identified as Jason Stephen Dixon, aged 35 and residing on Potter Place in Stanley, has been sentenced to prison following a series of violent and threatening acts against his ex-partner.

The court heard that Dixon was motivated by "irrational jealousy" which led to a "persistent attack." On July 11 of the previous year, he violently reacted during an incident where he shook and slapped his former partner, causing her nose to bleed.

During this violent episode, he also threatened her with a knife while she was in a vulnerable state, curled up on the floor, vomiting and fearing for her life.

Additionally, Dixon smashed some of her windows and a television set.

He later sent threatening messages to the victim and her family, and CCTV footage showed him approaching her address in dark clothing at a time coinciding with further threatening texts.

The victim incurred injuries such as bruising and swelling, prompting her to seek hospital treatment.

Two days later, while wanted by police, Dixon returned to her home, shouting threats and attempting to smash her windows.

In an even more serious incident on August 17, Dixon, accompanied by another male, forcibly entered her home after following her teenage daughter inside.

Despite being asked to leave, Dixon attempted to intimidate her with derogatory language, assaulted her by punching her in the face, and seized her phone to prevent her from calling police.

He then locked the door to delay her escape, but she managed to contact her mother, who documented her injuries.

Dixon was eventually arrested on August 23 after resisting arrest by throwing tiles at officers and police vehicles, causing minor injuries to an officer.

He initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty to multiple counts of assault and property damage, including damage caused during his arrest.

The court revealed Dixon’s extensive criminal record, with 36 convictions for 70 offenses, including nine for violence against the person.

The judge sentenced him to 25 months in prison, imposed a five-year restraining order, and emphasized the impact of his drug use and mental health issues, including ADHD, on his behavior.

Dixon was also noted to have a pattern of violent conduct towards women, and the court highlighted his continued pattern of offending, despite previous interventions.
