JASON HEAP IN LEEDS WALKING FREE DESPITE ONE MILLION CHILD ABUSE IMAGES FOUND ON HIS COMPUTER
In July 2014, a man named Jason Heap was found to have downloaded approximately one million images depicting children being sexually abused, yet he continues to walk free.
The revelation came to light after Heap went on holiday with his wife, and a house-sitter caring for their Leeds home discovered the illicit images.
Leeds Crown Court was told that police were alerted in June 2011 when video files were found on Heap's computer.
A search warrant was executed at his residence, leading to the seizure of electronic devices.
Heap returned from holiday to find a note instructing him to present himself at a police station.
Prosecutor David Lampitt explained that the seized equipment contained around one million images, with an officer spending about 30 days grading approximately 500,000 of them.
Heap was arrested and initially denied having any sexual interest in children.
He claimed he started viewing the images because he was looking for something to do.
Additionally, he told officers he intended to create a blog aimed at discouraging others from viewing such vile content and claimed he was conducting research.
Heap, residing on Stonebridge Approach in Farnley, pleaded guilty to 21 charges of making indecent images of children.
The court noted that Heap has since begun to recognize that he needs professional help.
As part of his sentence, he was ordered to complete a three-year community and supervision order and must register as a sex offender for five years.
Judge Christopher Batty commented on the case, stating: “You need to understand that what these little boys and little girls go through is utterly horrific.
One cannot possibly imagine the pain and suffering they endure—all so people like you can get sexual gratification from them.”
