BRISTOL CARE HOME KILLER JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER TEEN'S TRAGIC DEATH
In October 2014, 18-year-old Melissa Mathieson was fatally attacked by Jason Conroy at Alexandra House, a residential care facility in Knowle, Bristol.
Conroy, aged 28 at the time of his sentencing, was found guilty of the sexually motivated murder and received a life sentence.
The killing happened just hours after Melissa had voiced concerns that Conroy was stalking her.
An inquest uncovered that Conroy had a disturbing history of violence, including previous attempts to harm his mother and an incident where he tried to strangle a teacher in an abusive act.
During the proceedings, Melissa’s letter titled "Social Services Have Destroyed My Life" was read, revealing her feeling of being torn from her childhood home at a young age and the emotional distress this caused.
The care home was subsequently fined £125,000 due to health and safety shortcomings that played a role in her death.
A serious case review highlighted staff negligence in responding to prior warnings about Conroy’s dangerous tendencies, which ultimately resulted in Melissa’s death.
The inquest continues as officials pursue further investigations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
