ROMFORD MAN FIRST CONVICTION UNDER REVENGE PORN LAWS IN UK
A 21-year-old resident of Romford, Jason Asagba, became one of the initial individuals convicted under the newly enacted 'revenge porn' legislation. He admitted to sharing sexual images and videos with the intent to cause emotional harm.
The incident involved threats to publish private pictures of a 20-year-old woman from Reading online, just three days after the legislation took effect on 13 April.
He also sent these images to her family members and posted them on Facebook.
The case was heard at Reading Magistrates' Court, where Asagba was charged on 15 May and confessed to the offence the following day.
Detective Constable Steven Rose from Thames Valley Police commented that the case was highly distressing for the victim and reassured that law enforcement would rigorously enforce the new legal measures against such crimes.
Asagba was granted bail and was due to be sentenced on 7 August, though his conviction was not immediately reported due to a related court case that was ultimately dropped.
