MAN WHO SHARED 'CONCERNING AND DEPRAVED' IMAGES OF CHILDREN IS SENTENCED.
A PAEDOPHILE who shared “concerning and depraved” images of children will have to register as a sex offender for 10 years.Bradford Crown Court heard how Jarrad Hill sent videos of children to another man.
Prosecutor Benjamin Bell said Hill, 30, of Whitefield Bungalows, Goole, but formerly of Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, made 13 indecent images in Categories A, B, and C – with Category A being the most serious – between December 2023 and June 2024.
He distributed three images between November 11 and December 21, 2023.
Mr Bell said Hill’s phone was seized on June 7 last year when inquiries were being conducted into a matter concerning the other man.
An interim download revealed three images on the phone but due to the other man’s phone being downloaded and messages being found by police that showed distribution of images, an urgent download was requested.
Among the images revealed by that download were two Category A videos and four prohibited images of children.
They had been sent by Hill to the other man.
In an interview with police, Hill said he was not responsible for possessing any images but confirmed the mobile phone was his.
When asked if images of children would be found he answered “no comment” and said he didn’t have a sexual interest in children.
He denied sending any images.
Hill pleaded guilty to all six offences in January this year.
Mitigating, Abigail Langford said that child sex offenders often demonstrated a lack of insight, but that Hill had acknowledged “an attraction” to children.
She said: “Although of course the defendant understands that any sharing of imagery like this is serious it is not distribution in the way these courts sometimes see, which is the uploading of images onto a platform or a communication site.” She said the images had not been shared widely.
She suggested that the protection of the public would be best served by intervention rather than an immediate prison sentence, which might not trigger the amount of work needed in Hill’s case.
Describing the images sent by Jarrad Hill as “both concerning and depraved” His Honour Judge Jonathan Gibson said the case was so serious that a custodial sentence was required.
However, he said the right way to deal with Hill was via a suspended sentence as he had showed some insight into his offending.
He said: “The most effective work can be done with you whilst you are in the community.” He sentenced Hill to a total of 12 months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered him to undertake 35 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He said: “The pre-sentence report makes clear the substantial work that can be done with you.” Hill must sign the sex offender’s register for the next ten years and is made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period.
Judge Gibson ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the mobile phone.
