WICK FISHERMAN FINED FOR TWO-YEAR DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
A Wick man named Jared Robinson has been fined £1000 at the town's sheriff court after subjecting his partner to two years of domestic abuse. The court was informed that the abusive behavior occurred during their relationship and continued after they separated.
The court heard that Robinson caused emotional distress and concern to his former partner, who at times was left hysterical.
Robinson also repeatedly sent unwanted messages, issuing threats to her and any new partner she might have, including a threat to take his own life.
When police officers charged him, Robinson, aged 21, expressed remorse, saying: "I don't know what to do...
I really don't.
I gave her four-and-a-half years of my life and she threw it back in my face." The abuse spanned from April 1, 2020, to April 9, 2022.
Additionally, Robinson had struggled with mental health issues and had ongoing challenges when the relationship ended, but he is now better managing his mental health.
He is considered a first offender and has taken responsibility for his actions.
The court decided that imposing unpaid community work would be challenging due to his occupation as a fisher.
Besides the fine, Robinson was ordered to undergo a non-harassment order banning him from contacting his former partner for two years, with a warning that breaching this would be viewed very negatively by the court.
