BRADFORD OFFENDER SENTENCED FOR STALKING AND ASSAULT
A “besotted” stalker who bombarded his former partner with messages and calls and then assaulted her new boyfriend in the street has been sentenced to prison for more than two years.
In July last year, Jamie Ross, 34, was previously imprisoned for 12 weeks by magistrates for harassing the same woman and assaulting her, but despite being ordered to have no contact with her for three years, his stalking resumed shortly after his release.
Bradford Crown Court heard that Ross and the woman had a “volatile” on-off relationship.
After his release from custody, Ross professed his love for her, but his behavior was described by Judge Nicholas Worsley KC as disgusting and cowardly, saying: "It is said on your behalf that you were besotted and that you loved (her).
People who are in love do not behave like this.” Ross was sentenced to a total of 30 months in jail and a new indefinite restraining order was imposed, preventing him from contacting the woman, her fiancé, or other family members.
He had previously confronted her and her new partner near a Greggs shop in Holbeck, during which he assaulted the man by punching and stamping on his head while wearing work boots.
The judge highlighted Ross’s actions as cowardly, especially noting he had been watching her and who she was with through messages.
Ross, of Benn Gardens, Bradford, pleaded guilty to stalking, breaching a restraining order, and assault.
His barrister apologized for his behavior, describing Ross as “besotted” in an inappropriate way and stating plans to move away after his release.
The judge emphasized that Ross's previous behavior was appalling, and the restraining order he was given was made clear that he must have no contact with her or her family, which he violated multiple times using fake social media accounts.
The new restraining order will last indefinitely, effectively for life.
