POLICE OFFICER FROM SOUTH WALES HANDED SUSPENDED JAIL FOR COERCIVE CONTROL AND DOMESTIC ABUSE
A serving police officer from South Wales, Jamie Davies, met his new girlfriend via the dating app Hinge. He quickly developed a controlling and jealous behavior pattern that severely affected her wellbeing.
After leaving a previous relationship, Davies claimed he was sleeping in a blow-up bed at his parents' house, prompting the woman to let him stay at her home.
During the relationship, Davies expressed anger about her visiting her ex-partner to give back their shared dog, and he became increasingly possessive.
When she attempted to end the relationship after discovering he was texting other women and hiding his phone, Davies refused to accept the breakup, blaming poor mental health.
He made threats, refused to leave her address despite her requests, and sent disturbing messages indicating obsession and a desire to maintain control.
On multiple occasions, he behaved aggressively and insulted her, calling her derogatory names like “c***” and “slag,” and accused her of infidelity.
He also blamed her for his self-harm incidents and claimed he felt lonely, despite his controlling actions.
The woman described feeling emotionally drained and conditioned to his behavior, ultimately feeling she was ‘in freeze mode’ and unsure how to escape his influence.
Davies was convicted of coercive and controlling behavior, and he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation, perform 150 hours of unpaid work, undergo 15 days of rehabilitation, and was issued a 10-year restraining order preventing contact with the victim.
The police found that Davies had committed gross misconduct and dismissed him from South Wales Police.
The court criticized Davies for his conduct, particularly given his status as a police officer, emphasizing that he should have acted to higher standards.
Prosecutors highlighted the impact on the victim’s life, including her loss of confidence and her inability to perform her job she loved, following his relentless abuse.
