JAMIE CALDER SHAMES TURRIF IN SCOTLAND WITH HOME DESTRUCTION INCIDENT

Jamie Calder, a 29-year-old man from Turriff, appeared before Banff Sheriff Court to face sentencing for a violent incident that took place at his partner’s residence. The court was informed that Calder was responsible for causing significant distress and fear to a woman during a heated argument that occurred between the evening of April 29 and the early hours of April 30 this year.

According to court records, Calder, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time, entered his partner’s home around 5 pm in a visibly upset and disgruntled state. The situation escalated from a minor disagreement into a more serious altercation. The prosecutor detailed that Calder, intoxicated after consuming alcohol throughout the evening, left the house but later returned heavily drunk. Upon his return, he engaged in aggressive and disruptive behavior, following his partner into different rooms while shouting, swearing, and verbally abusing her. His conduct grew increasingly violent as he became more aggressive, disregarding her pleas for him to leave her alone.

During the episode, Calder’s anger manifested physically as he threw objects around the living room and kitchen area. Notably, he flipped a sofa and punched a hall clock, actions that demonstrated the extent of his rage. The incident culminated with Calder leaving the residence around midnight, only to return early the following morning, at which point police officers were waiting to arrest him.

Calder’s defense lawyer acknowledged that his client has a history of similar conduct, which has previously resulted in convictions. The lawyer attributed Calder’s violent behavior to his ongoing struggle with alcohol misuse. It was revealed that Calder had been receiving treatment for his alcohol problem but had relapsed following the recent death of a family member, which contributed to his current state.

Supporters of Calder remain supportive despite the incident, and it was reported that he has since ceased drinking. The court sentenced Calder to complete 80 hours of unpaid community service over a period of six months. Additionally, he was placed under supervision with the social work department for a duration of nine months to monitor his progress and ensure compliance with the court’s orders.
