JAMES TAIT FROM DALGETY BAY SENTENCED IN LERWICK FOR INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In July 2020, a man identified as James Adam Tait from Dalgety Bay was sentenced to a three-year supervision order following his appearance in court on charges related to the possession and creation of indecent images. The case was heard at Lerwick Sheriff Court, where Tait faced serious allegations concerning his involvement with explicit material. It was established that Tait, aged 50, had admitted to engaging in activities involving indecent photographs at an address in Lerwick. Specifically, he acknowledged taking or allowing the taking of, or making, indecent images or pseudo photographs at that location during the period from March 15, 2014, to June 17, 2019. These actions were deemed to be in violation of laws concerning the distribution and possession of such material.
Furthermore, Tait also admitted to possessing an extreme pornographic image during a separate timeframe, from April 24, 2016, to June 25, 2019. The possession of such material is considered a serious offense, reflecting the court’s concern over the nature of the content involved.
During the court proceedings, the judge imposed a supervision order that will last for three years, emphasizing the importance of monitoring Tait’s conduct moving forward. In addition to the supervision, Tait was sentenced to complete 100 hours of unpaid community service, which is intended to serve as a form of restorative justice and community accountability.
As part of the court’s ruling, Tait was also placed on the sex offenders register, a measure designed to ensure ongoing oversight and to protect the community from potential future offenses. The court further ordered the forfeiture of all items containing the images, effectively removing any such material from circulation and preventing further distribution or possession.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful explicit content, especially involving vulnerable populations. The proceedings at Lerwick Sheriff Court underscore the seriousness with which such offenses are treated and the commitment to safeguarding public safety.
