JAMES SAKAL FROM MARKS TEY CHALLENGES NEW WEBCAM CONTACT BAN IN COLCHESTER
In May 2017, James Sakal, a known sex offender residing in Marks Tey, faced a legal challenge concerning a proposed new restriction on his internet activities. Sakal, aged 33 at the time, had previously been convicted in January 2013 for downloading indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography. His existing sexual harm prevention order was set to expire in January of that year, but authorities expressed ongoing concerns about his behavior and sought to extend restrictions to prevent further contact with minors.During a hearing held at Colchester Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Fiona Philpott outlined the reasons behind the request for an extension. She explained that Essex Police were seeking to prolong the order due to suspicions that Sakal had been engaging in inappropriate online searches related to children. Furthermore, there were reports indicating that he had been involved in sexualised conversations with a schoolgirl, with the police confirming that she was 16 years old. Additionally, officers revealed that girls as young as nine had reportedly been flirting with him online while he was working as a musician.
It was also disclosed that Sakal, who resides on Coggeshall Road in Marks Tey, did not attend the court hearing in person. Instead, a letter from his solicitor was read aloud, stating that Sakal intended to contest the application for the new order. The magistrates, taking into account the seriousness of the allegations and the potential risk to children, decided to impose an interim order to restrict his online activities until a full hearing could be scheduled.
The full hearing was scheduled to take place at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on August 10, where further proceedings would determine whether the new restrictions would be formally imposed on Sakal. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the behavior of convicted sex offenders and the measures taken by authorities to prevent potential harm to minors in the community.
