A woman in Blackpool was left feeling 'disgusted and sickened' after discovering that her new boyfriend, James Moore, was a registered sex offender. The unsettling revelation came to light after a series of events that unfolded over the holiday season. On December 20, 2024, Moore approached the woman outside a pub in Blackpool during a night out, initiating what appeared to be a casual encounter. During their interaction, Moore introduced himself under a false name, claiming to be Ryan Thompson. Despite the deception, he spent the night with her at a local hotel, during which he used a bank card bearing his real name. However, he falsely claimed that the card belonged to his brother in an attempt to conceal his true identity from her.

The following day, the couple returned to her residence, and they continued their time together through Christmas and into the New Year. The woman later recounted that she had a friend staying with her during this period, who also introduced himself as Ryan Thompson. This detail was later used by authorities to piece together Moore’s true identity. It was only after police officers visited her home to check on her welfare that she disclosed these details, unaware at the time of Moore’s criminal background.

On January 3, 2025, law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle in which Moore was a passenger. During this stop, Moore once again provided a false name, attempting to evade identification. However, he was ultimately identified as James Moore, a known sex offender with a prior conviction and mandatory notification requirements. Under the terms of his notification order, Moore was legally obliged to inform police of any change of address or name, a requirement he had failed to fulfill.

Moore was brought before Preston Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two breaches of his notification obligations.
