JAMES LOWREY FROM ALLENTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL GROOMING AND OFFENCES IN DERBY
In October 2016, a disturbing case unfolded involving James Lowrey, a resident of Allenton, who was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate and illegal communications with a person he believed to be a teenage girl. The incident took place in Derby, where Lowrey’s actions were brought to light during a court hearing at Derby Crown Court.Lowrey, aged 41 and residing at Brindley Court in Allenton, was already awaiting sentencing for a previous offense involving contacting a real girl. However, during this latest incident, he believed he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl on social messaging platforms Kik and Skype. The individual he thought was a minor used the username Lala Lauren, but in reality, the person was an undercover police officer.
According to court reports, Lowrey initiated a series of sexually explicit conversations, claiming to own a construction firm and a Porsche, and asking the girl if she wanted to lose her virginity. His messages included graphic descriptions of sexual acts he wanted to perform and even a photo of his genitals. At one point, he discussed the idea of making the girl his wife, to which she responded with a question about what a wife does. Lowrey replied, “Cook, clean, oh and sex.”
Judge Jonathan Bennett sentenced Lowrey to four years in prison for this latest offense. During the sentencing, the judge highlighted the nature of Lowrey’s conduct, emphasizing that the conversations were aimed at grooming a vulnerable young girl. The judge noted that the girl had disclosed her age early in the conversation, stating she was 14, while Lowrey falsely claimed to be 30. He attempted to impress her with details about his job and possessions, including his vehicle.
The court revealed that Lowrey’s interactions spanned several occasions, during which he persistently engaged in sexual conversations, clearly attempting to groom the girl. It was also noted that he became aware of her vulnerable circumstances, including her parents’ separation, her living with her father, and her mother’s alcohol problems.
Lowrey admitted to attempting to contact a child between November 25 and December 17, as well as breaching a sexual offences prevention order. The court also recalled his criminal history, which includes a six-year prison sentence in 2008 for grooming and meeting a 13-year-old girl, as well as a suspended sentence for possessing numerous indecent photographs.
In October, Lowrey pleaded guilty to further charges, including contacting a 13-year-old girl and taking photographs up someone’s skirt on public transport. Before he was sentenced for these offenses, he committed the latest crime. He was subsequently sentenced in December to 12 months in prison, from which he was released in June.
Judge Bennett explained that after serving two years of his current sentence, Lowrey would be referred to the parole board to assess whether it was safe to release him. Nonetheless, he is expected to serve a maximum of four years in prison. Following his release, Lowrey will be on license for an additional three years and will be subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further offending.
