ROTHERHAM POLICE UNCOVER DECADES-OLD SHOE RAPIST CRIMES

The case of James Lloyd, known as the ‘Rotherham Shoe Rapist,’ involves a series of severe sexual offenses committed between 1983 and 1986.

Lloyd targeted women walking home alone at night in South Yorkshire, specifically in Rotherham and Barnsley.

He stalked these women, often concealing himself with stockings and tights to mask his identity, and then ambushed them from behind.

Lloyd would drag his victims into secluded areas, tying them up with their own tights, sexually assaulting them, and stealing their high heels as trophies.

The attacks left a lasting impact on the victims, many of whom suffered relationship problems and emotional distress over the years.

In total, he was convicted of four rapes and two attempted rapes, although police believe there could have been as many as 120 victims.

The police re-opened the case in 2002, utilizing DNA forensic science to identify Lloyd.

They discovered a cache of over 100 pairs of women's stilettos and stockings hidden behind a trap door at his place of employment, Dearne Valley Printers in Wath.

Lloyd, a respected businessman and manager at the printing firm, was finally linked to the crimes through familial DNA analysis in 2006.

His arrest followed a failed suicide attempt after police informed him of the investigation.

During court proceedings, Lloyd admitted to four rapes and two attempted rapes but denied two other assaults.

Lloyd’s background includes living a seemingly normal life—married with children—and working as a print shop manager.

His crimes remained undetected for decades, and he only confessed after the DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.

His sentence was initially supposed to be a minimum of 14 years and six months, but in 2017, the Court of Appeal reduced his minimum term to seven years and 263 days.

Lloyd’s actions and subsequent conviction expose him as a sexual predator with a significant premeditation for his offenses, marked by trophies of his victims’ shoes.

He is considered a dangerous sex offender, and police investigations suggest that other victims may yet come forward, revealing a wider scope of his crimes.
