JAMES INNES FROM HUNTLY CONVICTED OF DOMESTIC ABUSE AND THREATS AT ABERDEEN SHERIFF COURT
James Innes, a 43-year-old man from Huntly, has been found guilty of engaging in threatening and abusive conduct towards his former partner and employee at Mains of Gartly Farm, located in Huntly. The conviction was reached after a detailed four-day trial held at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where Innes’s behavior was scrutinized and documented in court proceedings.During the trial, witnesses and the victim provided harrowing testimony describing a pattern of domestic abuse that spanned over four years. The victim recounted multiple instances of physical and emotional violence inflicted by Innes, who was characterized in court as a 'womanising bully.' She detailed how Innes had physically pushed her, used derogatory language to threaten her, and even assaulted her by slamming a car door into her body. The court heard allegations that Innes had forcibly involved her in a medical procedure against her will, an act that added to the severity of his abusive behavior. Additionally, the victim described how Innes had grabbed her forcibly by the body during confrontations, further emphasizing the aggressive nature of his conduct.
The prosecution summarized Innes’s actions as a series of repeated threats, shouting matches, swearing, pushing, and other aggressive acts that created a hostile environment for his former partner. These behaviors were presented as evidence of ongoing domestic abuse, illustrating a pattern of controlling and violent conduct over several years.
Innes’s defense attempted to discredit the victim, claiming that her testimony was unreliable and suggesting that she was motivated by revenge after discovering his infidelity. They argued that her accusations were exaggerated and that her account was biased, portraying her as a 'woman scorned.' However, the court found these claims unconvincing and determined that Innes’s evidence was fabricated to distort the truth.
Ultimately, the sheriff concluded that Innes had acted aggressively towards his ex-partner, including seizing her body and making derogatory remarks, which constituted threatening and abusive behavior. The court’s verdict reflected the seriousness of his actions, emphasizing that his conduct was indicative of continued domestic abuse.
As a result of the conviction, Innes was fined £1,575 and ordered to pay the amount within 28 days. The judge also issued a stern warning, stating that Innes’s evidence had been proven false and that his actions demonstrated a pattern of domestic violence. The court made it clear that such behavior would not be tolerated and cautioned Innes against appearing in court again in the future, underscoring the importance of accountability and the protection of victims in domestic abuse cases.
