JAMES DYER FROM WOKINGHAM SENTENCED AFTER READING INCIDENTS INVOLVING SEXUAL OFFENSES AND ASSAULTS

In August 2021, a series of disturbing incidents involving James Dyer, a resident of Wokingham, came to light following a series of criminal acts carried out in Reading. Dyer, aged 34, was found guilty of multiple charges related to sexual misconduct and violent behavior, leading to his subsequent imprisonment.

Thames Valley Police publicly commended the bravery and resilience of the victims who endured Dyer’s heinous actions. The police described Dyer as someone who exhibited all the characteristics of a dangerous offender, highlighting his apparent inability to control his impulses and his persistent pursuit of sexual contact with young women.

The court proceedings took place at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, August 25. Dyer, residing on Longs Way in Wokingham, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of sending indecent or grossly offensive electronic communications with the intent to cause distress or anxiety. Additionally, he was convicted of one count of sexual assault and one count of common assault.

According to a statement issued by Thames Valley Police following the case, Dyer’s criminal behavior began to surface in early April of that year. During this period, he sent explicit videos of a sexual nature to two teenage girls and a woman in her twenties, accompanied by grossly offensive comments. These actions caused significant distress to the victims and were part of the evidence that led to his conviction.

Further details reveal that on April 16, Dyer committed an alarming act in Reading. He approached a parked car and opened the door, attempting to forcibly drag out the woman inside, who was in her twenties. Dyer had asked her to have sex with him during this encounter. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape from his grasp, avoiding further harm.

In addition to his prison sentence, Dyer was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect for ten years. Restraining orders were also issued against him, prohibiting any contact with his victims for the same duration. These legal measures aim to protect the victims from further harassment or harm.

It is noteworthy that Dyer’s criminal history includes an incident in December 2018, where he engaged in a violent rampage, slapping and punching his neighbor before grabbing a pizza cutter. Despite this, he avoided prison at that time, but the recent offenses have resulted in a significant custodial sentence, reflecting the severity of his recent actions.
