DUNDEE MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS IN HIGH COURT FOR RAPE AND ABUSE
A man from Dundee, James Donaldson, aged 36, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of multiple rape charges.He subjected his victims to violence, threats, and controlling behavior alongside sexual assault.
A judge at the High Court in Edinburgh described his conduct as 'abhorrent.' Lord Uist highlighted that Donaldson has a history of nine assault offences and noted that he was convicted of raping two women at different addresses in Arbroath and Dundee between 2012 and 2017.
Donaldson also faced charges of sexually assaulting the women and attacking them, although he denied these offences.
During the trial, he admitted to additional charges including breach of the peace, stalking, and abusive behavior.
He was acquitted of three other sexual offences, including a sexual coercion charge involving forcing a victim to participate in sex with others.
Following his conviction, Donaldson will be placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
The judge emphasized the severity of his crimes, with victims recounting violence, aggression, and intimidation.
One woman described him as 'scary when he is aggressive,' mentioning spitting and physical violence, as well as controlling and accusatory behavior during their relationship.
Tayside Police welcomed the sentence, with Detective Inspector Muriel Fuller stating that Donaldson's actions were violent and degrading, and committed over a nine-year period.
Authorities are encouraging victims of domestic abuse to report incidents and seek support.
The case underscores the importance of robust investigation and justice for victims of sexual and physical maltreatment.
