SCOTTISH CARE WORKER STRUCK OFF AFTER ASSAULTING ELDERLY RESIDENT IN DUNDEE
An individual named James Campbell, who was working as a support worker at a residential care home in Dundee, has been involved in a serious incident where he assaulted a 92-year-old resident. The incident occurred in June 2020, when Campbell grabbed and pulled an extremely vulnerable pensioner, an act described as violent, aggressive, and abusive.
Campbell was convicted at Dundee Sheriff Court in August 2021 for assaulting the resident by seizing him by the body and pulling him.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) subsequently referred him and has now permanently removed him from the social care profession, citing his lack of insight or regret about his behaviour.
The SSSC emphasized that assaulting a resident constitutes violent, abusive behaviour that risks serious harm, and noted concerns about Campbell's ability to control his reactions and attitude toward vulnerability.
Campbell was notified of the removal order in March 2022 and did not request a full hearing.
His name was officially struck off the SSSC register on May 12, 2022, effectively banning him from practicing as a support worker in Scotland.
