ALLOA MAN JAMES BRAND JAILED FOR BRUTAL DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man from Alloa, James Brand, aged 48, was sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to charges of abduction and assault related to severe domestic abuse. The court heard harrowing details of his violent actions against his partner, including punching her so forcefully that she was left unconscious and nearly lost her sight, threatening her with death, strangling her causing her to black out, and other brutal attacks such as throwing paint and dragging her by the hair.
These incidents occurred between March 6 to 8, 2015, and September 1, 2016, to January 31, 2017.
Sheriff William Gilchrist described Brand's offenses as some of the worst domestic abuse cases he has ever handled.
Despite his guilty plea, Brand attempted to appeal the sentence, arguing that he deserved a discount because he pleaded guilty on the day of his trial, which would have spared witnesses and jurors from attending court.
However, the High Court of Justiciary rejected his appeal, stating that the sheriff's decision was correct after reviewing the case proceedings.
Details of the violent incidents and the court's decision highlight the severity of Brand's crimes and the legal process that followed.
