BRECHIN MAN JAMES ALEXANDER CAUGHT IN MONTROSE WITH INDECENT IMAGES INVOLVING CHILDREN

In July 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving James Alexander, a resident of Brechin, who was found to have committed serious offenses involving indecent images and inappropriate conduct with children. The incident came to light after police executed a search warrant at Alexander’s residence in Montrose, following investigations into his online activity.

During the raid, law enforcement officials discovered explicit photographs on Alexander’s mobile phone. These images, which were later examined in detail, showed two children in the background, with Alexander himself clearly visible in the photographs. The images depicted him sitting on a sofa, with his genitals exposed, engaging in a sexual act. The discovery was particularly alarming because it involved children, raising grave concerns about his conduct.

The police investigation was prompted by information indicating that Alexander’s IP address had been used to access and download indecent images. This led to a warrant being issued to search his home. When officers arrived, Alexander cooperated to some extent, pointing out a mobile device and providing the PIN code. He admitted to visiting some “pretty bad porn sites” and claimed that he had sent pictures to friends, although he did not specify the nature of these images.

During police interviews, Alexander chose to remain silent, offering no further comment. The forensic analysis of his mobile phone confirmed the presence of two explicit images involving children, which significantly contributed to the case against him. The investigation also revealed that Alexander’s former partner described him as “extremely careful” and “secretive” with his mobile phone, suggesting he took measures to conceal his activities.

On June 24 of the previous year, Alexander was at an address in Montrose when he committed the offenses. He pleaded guilty to charges of intentionally engaging in a sexual act in the presence of two children and taking indecent photographs involving minors. His solicitor, Nick Whelan, indicated that mitigation would be reserved until social work reports could be prepared, emphasizing the seriousness of the case.

Before sentencing, Sheriff Tom Hughes ordered that Alexander be placed on the sex offenders register, a measure that reflects the gravity of his actions. The court also allowed his bail to continue, ensuring he remains under supervision until the next hearing. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from such heinous crimes.
