JAMES ALEXANDER FROM BRECHIN INVOLVED IN CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES SCANDAL IN DUNDEE

In January 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving James Alexander, a resident of Brechin, who was found to have engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal activities related to child sexual abuse images. The case came to light after police investigations uncovered evidence that linked Alexander to the distribution and creation of indecent images involving minors.

Alexander's actions included taking a photograph of himself performing a sexual act in front of two children, an act he carried out in Montrose on June 24, 2019. He then sent this explicit image to another individual known to be a paedophile, further compounding the severity of his misconduct. What made the situation more troubling was that Alexander had concealed his activities from his wife, who was unaware of his actions until the police raid.

Following a tip-off, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Alexander’s home in Brechin. During the raid, Alexander initially claimed that the images police were seeking might have been photographs taken by his wife. However, the evidence quickly pointed to his direct involvement. When questioned, Alexander admitted to intentionally engaging in sexual activity in the presence of two children, including holding his erect penis in his hand and taking a photograph of himself in this state.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Sheriff Thomas Hughes addressed Alexander’s case, imposing strict conditions to prevent further offences. Alexander was ordered to adhere to a conduct requirement that severely restricted his internet usage and contact with minors. Specifically, he was prohibited from engaging in any hobbies or interests that could bring him into contact with children without prior approval from his supervising officer. Additionally, a ban was placed on any contact with individuals under the age of 16, as well as with other sex offenders.

Furthermore, the court mandated that police have unrestricted access to Alexander’s online cloud storage accounts, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his digital activity. Alexander, aged 39, was placed under social work supervision and registered as a sex offender for a period of three years. These measures aim to prevent any recurrence of his criminal behaviour and to protect the community.

The police investigation revealed that Alexander had been secretive about his online activities for several weeks prior to the raid. When officers arrived at his residence, he answered the door with his partner present. He handed over an Alcatel phone along with its PIN, admitting that he frequented inappropriate websites and had sent explicit images to friends. His partner informed police that Alexander had uploaded a sexually explicit image of himself to the internet and had been unusually cautious and secretive about his phone usage in recent weeks.

During questioning, Alexander also claimed that he believed the images police were searching for might have been photographs taken by his wife, a statement that was met with skepticism given the evidence. The court was told that Alexander’s relationship had since ended, and he was now under strict supervision to prevent any further offences. His case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable individuals from harm.
