JAKE WINN FROM BUTLER SHOCKS COURT WITH SCHOOLGIRL INCIDENT IN CALDERSTONES PARK

In July 2023, a distressing case unfolded in Liverpool involving Jake Winn, a man from Butler, who found himself at the center of a serious criminal investigation after being caught in a compromising situation with a 15-year-old girl. The incident took place at Calderstones Park, where police officers, on routine patrol, observed a vehicle with its lights on and condensation on the windows during the evening hours.

As the officers approached, they noticed a male and female inside the car, later identified as Winn and the young girl. The male, Winn, was seen putting on his T-shirt and moving into the driver's seat, while the girl was holding a jacket over her chest and also moved into the front passenger seat. The officers questioned the pair, and Winn initially claimed they were merely kissing and not doing anything wrong. However, further investigation revealed inconsistencies, including the girl providing a false date of birth, which was later corrected through police checks to confirm she was indeed 15 years old.

Winn, who resides on Forefield Lane, Crosby, was visibly distressed during the police encounter. He repeatedly expressed remorse, saying, "I'm sorry, I'm going to get arrested, I'm going to lose my job, this is going to ruin my life." The officers also spoke with the girl and her parents. Her father was called to the scene and took her home, while her parents agreed to surrender her phone for examination. Despite this cooperation, they chose not to engage further with the prosecution or provide a formal statement.

During police interviews, Winn admitted to kissing the girl, acknowledging that he knew her age but described the act as a 'moment of madness.' He also revealed that the girl had sent him a picture of her bare breasts via Snapchat, which officers recovered from his account. This led to his being charged with possessing a category C indecent image of a child. Winn further admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the girl, including kissing her, but insisted he would have stopped if it had gone any further, claiming he was now attracted to her.

Prosecutor Louise McCloskey outlined that Winn had arranged to meet the girl after communicating with her on Snapchat, with plans made on September 4 of the previous year. The court heard that Winn had a first-class degree, and despite the gravity of his actions, he was not sentenced to jail. Instead, Judge David Aubrey KC sentenced him to a 12-month community order, which includes a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement. Additionally, Winn is required to sign the sex offenders register for five years.

Throughout the proceedings, Winn’s parents, who sat in the public gallery, described him as a 'model son' who had 'never given his mum or dad a day of trouble.' The judge noted the stark contrast between Winn’s usual demeanor and his recent behavior, stating that since his arrest, he had gone from being 'outgoing' to 'sitting in his room with the lights off crying, evening after evening.' The court emphasized that Winn’s contact with the girl was facilitated via Snapchat, which was considered a significant error, especially given his intelligence and background. The case serves as a sobering reminder of the serious consequences of such actions, regardless of personal circumstances.
