JADE COOK FROM PLYMOUTH AND DAWLISH CAUGHT IN CHORLEY SEX CRIME SCANDAL

In a disturbing series of events spanning several months, Jade Cook, a man with ties to Plymouth and Dawlish, has been at the center of serious criminal allegations involving the sexual abuse of minors in Chorley. The case has garnered significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the legal proceedings that followed.

It all began to unfold in April 2012 when Cook, then aged 22 and residing in Pennycomequick, Dawlish, was charged with engaging in sexual activities with a young boy. The charges stemmed from an incident in Chorley, where Cook was arrested on March 30. Following his arrest, he was brought before Preston Crown Court, where he faced two counts of sexual assault involving a boy aged between 13 and 15 years. Cook did not enter any pleas at that time and was remanded into custody, with a scheduled court appearance set for June 19 for plea and case management.

Later that year, in July 2012, Cook appeared at Preston Crown Court to face additional allegations. He was accused of sexually assaulting a boy and was remanded into custody once again. The court proceedings revealed that Cook, who was also known as an amateur tattooist, had denied all charges during the trial. His legal situation became more serious when, in November 2012, he was convicted of the sexual abuse of a schoolboy under the age of 14. The court sentenced him to an indeterminate sentence of imprisonment for public protection, with a minimum term of approximately 30 months before he could be considered for release. Additionally, Cook was disqualified from working with children indefinitely and was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life upon his release.

However, the most shocking development occurred in May 2013. Cook, now 23 and residing at Oak Park Villas, Dawlish, Devon, was convicted of grooming and sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy. The court heard that Cook had manipulated the boy into performing a sexual act while staying at Cook’s Chorley home. The judge described how Cook, who had befriended the boy on Facebook in 2011, falsely claimed to be 19 when he was actually 22. He traveled from Dawlish to Chorley and stayed with the boy and his family under the guise of being a teenager and a friend. The court was told that Cook’s presence in the family’s home was a betrayal of their trust, as the boy’s mother was unaware of Cook’s true intentions and the abuse he was inflicting.

During his stay, Cook initiated a sexual relationship with the boy, convincing him to perform a sexual act. The victim’s parents grew suspicious of Cook’s behavior and contacted the police. When arrested, Cook initially denied any sexual contact but later admitted guilt on the first day of his trial. His actions were described by the judge as a “cruel series of crimes” that “destroyed his victim’s innocence.”

Initially, Cook was sentenced to an indefinite prison term for public protection, reflecting the severity of his crimes. The judge emphasized the need to protect the public from such dangerous individuals. However, Cook challenged this sentence, and the Court of Appeal in London ultimately replaced it with a fixed term of six years and three months, followed by an additional three years on license in the community. The appeal judges, including Lord Justice Fulford and Mr Justice King, argued that a less severe but still proportionate sentence would suffice to address the risk Cook posed at the time.

Throughout these proceedings, Cook’s case has highlighted the dangers posed by predatory offenders and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial oversight. His criminal history, which includes grooming, sexual assault, and manipulation of minors, underscores the ongoing threat he represents to society. The case continues to serve as a stark reminder of the need for robust measures to prevent such crimes and protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
