BRITAIN’S YOUNGEST NEO-NAZI TERRORIST SENTENCED AT 18

A NEO-Nazi teen who became Britain's youngest convicted terrorist at 16 after plotting a "race war" has been unmasked after losing a bid to keep his anonymity secret.

Jack Reed, now 18, who is the son of a quantity surveyor, plotted a sick terror attack on schools and pubs.

He was convicted of attempting to obtain ingredients to make explosives in a twisted bid to start a "race war" in Durham when he was 16.

His anonymity was retained when he was sentenced because he also faced separate child sex charges – which he has now been given an additional 18 months for.

Reed was arrested in 2019 as he set off for school one morning - after cops had monitored his disturbing online posts.

In his pocket, police found a chilling note with a sinister message.

It read: "Killing is probably easier than your paranoid mind thinks.

"You're just not used to it.

Most were caught because they got sloppy." He was found guilty of six offences at Manchester Crown Court in November 2019, including preparation of terrorist acts and disseminating a terrorist publication, and was sentenced to six years and eight months behind bars.

Cops found a manifesto of 'Areas to Attack' at Jack Reed's family home.

And while a judge initially ordered that the defendant remain anonymous, Reed can now be named.

Lawyers for the teenager had argued naming him would be adverse to the welfare of a “very vulnerable youth with very obvious social difficulties”.

They said the release of his identity would have a “huge negative impact” on him and his family.

But Recorder of Manchester Judge Nicholas Dean QC said yesterday he had “no power" to keep Reed's name out of the papers.

The court heard the "highly intelligent" young terrorist went to Durham Johnston Comprehensive - which is one of the country's top state schools.

He grew up in a £500,000 home, and his parents were worried about their son being "labelled" after he showed autistic tendencies.

A court heard that the boy would spend hours of his free time "locked in a darkened room with his laptop, spouting bile".

Reed had been searching for extremist material since he was 12, and was referred to the Government's Prevent deradicalisation programme.

Traces of his extremism could be seen on his social media - he was using a portrait of Rhodesia's 1970s white leader Ian Smith as his Facebook profile picture.

He had also set up a Twitter profile named 'Mosley was right' – a reference to British 1930s fascist leader Oswald Mosley.

Analysis of his devices showed that the 16-year-old had searched for 'lone wolf' attacks, as well as terms like explosives, knives, and firearms.

In one post he claimed Hitler started the Second World War to protect German lives and branded Winston Churchill a "war-monger".

In another, he argued, as the Nazis did, that national socialism "promotes order and Christian values." He even drafted his own manifesto, titled 'A Manual For Practical And Sensible Guerrilla Warfare Against The K**e System In The Durham City Area, Sieg Heil'.

The word 'k**e' is a slur used to refer to a Jewish person.

In the document, Reed wrote about "the inevitable race war" and threatened local synagogues.

And in August 2018 he wrote a to-do list, which included the instruction 'shed empathy'.

Investigations also showed that the 16-year-old would look into making explosives and poisonous ricin.

He had assembled a library of far-Right literature, which an expert described as "more extreme than anything he had ever seen." And while a judge initially ordered that the defendant remain anonymous, Reed can now be named.

Reed also wrote an extensive list of firearms he would buy.

The investigations revealed he had assembled extremist literature, and searched for weapons and explosives online.

He threatened to start a race war, and his manifesto included targets and violent rhetoric.

His social media activity included pro-Nazi content, and he even wrote a 2018 to-do list instructing to shed empathy.

Despite his intelligence and social difficulties, he was considered a dangerous extremist.

He was sentenced to a total of 6 years and 8 months for terrorism charges, with an additional 18 months for child sex offenses, which run concurrently.

He was also found guilty of attempted child sex offenses committed before his terror conviction.

The court and police considered him a significant threat, and his extreme views and plans were detailed in seized documents and devices.
