LATVIAN RAPIST AND VIOLENT OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS IN BRADFORD
A Latvian national named Ivor Rozentals, aged 37 and currently in custody at HMP Leeds, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a serious sexual offence.Rozentals was found guilty by a jury of raping and causing grievous bodily harm to his victim during an incident where he was said to have been intoxicated by drugs or alcohol.
The court heard that Rozentals degraded his victim, who also suffered serious injuries, and caused significant emotional trauma, including mood swings, suicidal thoughts, flashbacks, and distress.
In a statement read on her behalf, the victim described the impact of Rozentals' actions as "devastating" and "far-reaching." Prosecutor Stephen Wood KC highlighted that the victim clearly indicated she did not consent to the sexual activity.
Rozentals, with a history of violent and abusive behavior towards women, received a sentence described by Assistant Judge Advocate General Tom Mitchell as "massively serious" with an element of cruelty involved.
The judge also stated that Rozentals' conduct had caused extensive harm, elevating the seriousness of the case.
The court sentenced him to a total of 17 years imprisonment—17 years for rape and 2 years for GBH, to be served concurrently.
Rozentals will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release and will face automatic deportation once released.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life.
