MONSTER ABUSER GUILTY OF HORRIFIC CAMPAIGN OF CONTROL, HUMILIATION AND RAPE
A violent abuser who subjected his partner to years of fear, degradation and sexual violence has been convicted at the High Court in Dundee.Ivar Bell was found guilty following a trial at Dundee High Court after jurors heard details of what prosecutors described as a prolonged campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner between March 2020 and February 2023.
Court documents reveal Bell repeatedly swore at the woman, threatened her, accused her of infidelity and attempted to isolate her from friends and family.
The court heard he regularly checked her mobile phone, instructed her to remove friends from social media and controlled who she was allowed to speak to.
Bell was also convicted of physically abusing the woman by seizing and pushing her, throwing alcohol over her, disposing of her underwear and removing her prescription medication without consent.
Jurors further heard he removed a baby monitor from her possession during the abusive relationship.
But the most shocking details related to a sickening sexual attack said to have taken place in January 2023.
According to the conviction, Bell removed the woman’s clothing, forced her to her knees, made repeated sexualised comments and seized her by the head before raping her.
The court heard he penetrated her mouth, anus and vagina without consent, causing injury.
Bell was convicted under Scotland’s Domestic Abuse Act 2018.
Following the guilty verdict, officials confirmed Bell is now a registered sex offender.
The length of time he will remain on the Sex Offenders Register will be decided during sentencing.
Sentence was deferred until 6 May 2026 at the Justiciary Buildings in Saltmarket, Glasgow, to allow background and risk assessment reports to be prepared.
Bell was ultimately sentenced to six years imprisonment for his horrific campaign of abuse.
The court also ordered that he be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, meaning he will remain subject to strict monitoring for the rest of his life.
In addition, a lifelong non-harassment order was imposed protecting both the victim and her young daughter, banning Bell from contacting or approaching them indefinitely.
