ISHOLA ADEYOMI ADEOYE SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN LONDON
In March 2012, Ishola Adeyomi Adeoye, aged 26, from Bermondsey, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. Adeoye met the girl in Plumstead in October 2010 and took her back to his home in Woolwich. Fully aware of her age, he offered her alcohol, waited until she passed out, and then assaulted her.The victim woke up the next morning unaware of what had happened. Later that day, after returning home, she experienced pain and suspected something was wrong. She reported the incident to the police, who conducted a DNA analysis that confirmed she had been raped.
An investigation was launched by officers from the Met’s Sapphire Command based in Bexley. The DNA profile matched Adeoye. Initially, he denied ever meeting the girl but changed his testimony during the trial, eventually admitting he knew her while still claiming innocence. Detective Constable Pete Thompson described the case, stating, “This was a horrendous act committed against a vulnerable 14-year-old girl. Adeoye tried to deny the offence and when the evidence against him was so strong he ended up changing his account. The jury clearly saw through his lies and I am pleased with the sentencing result. The victim showed a tremendous amount of courage and bravery to give evidence against the defendant. I hope that this result can go some way in helping both her and her family come to terms with what has happened.”
Adeoye was convicted of rape after a week-long trial at the Old Bailey and was sentenced on March 2, 2012.
