MET POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR ABUSIVE CRIMES AGAINST WIFE
A man formerly employed by the Metropolitan Police, PC Isaque Rodrigues-Leite, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison after being convicted of multiple abusive acts toward his wife.The court proceedings revealed that during his period as a police officer, Rodrigues-Leite engaged in domestic abuse by trapping his wife in confined spaces such as a caravan and bedroom, assaulting her with a car, and making threats with a knife.
During disputes, he told her that her credibility would be compromised because he was a police officer.
Evidence showed that his abusive behaviour intensified after he joined the police in March 2019.
In April 2019, he imprisoned her in a caravan following a discovery of messages that suggested infidelity, and three months later, he barricaded her in their bedroom, pushing her back onto the bed during an argument about messages on his computer related to paying for sex.
In another incident, he raised his fist at her during a fight, punched a wall, and refused her attempt to leave.
When she tried to drive away, he was in the vehicle and accelerated it toward her, causing her to jump onto the bonnet to escape.
He continued to drive the car back and forth until she fell on the roadside, stating, “Look what you made me do.” The victim reported feeling shame and fear, stating, “I felt it was shameful when I had a husband who was a police officer who was abusing me.” Rodrigues-Leite was sentenced for four counts of false imprisonment, two counts of common assault, one count of criminal damage, and one count of coercive control, with the sentencing taking place at Croydon Crown Court by Recorder Daniel Dyal in November of the previous year.
He was dismissed from his police role and barred from returning to law enforcement.
The court condemned his actions as reprehensible and noted that his misconduct tarnished the reputation of his colleagues and the police force.
He was also cleared of two additional false imprisonment counts and two charges of threatening to kill.
