INETA DZINGUVIENE'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN FRASERBURGH AND LITHUANIA REVEALED

In a chilling series of events that span across two countries, Ineta Dzinguviene, a woman originally from Lithuania, has been at the center of multiple tragic and disturbing crimes involving her own children. Her story, which has unfolded in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, and her native Lithuania, reveals a pattern of violence and concealment that has shocked both communities and the legal systems involved.

In May 2023, Dzinguviene admitted to the heinous act of killing her newborn son shortly after his birth. The incident took place on April 12, 2010, at a flat located on High Street in Fraserburgh. The court heard that she held a piece of clingfilm over her infant's face, suffocating him, and then concealed his tiny body in a holdall. The prosecution detailed how she used the clingfilm to asphyxiate her son, Paulius Dzingus, and then placed his body behind a roll of carpet in the communal lobby of her flat. The authorities confirmed that the baby was born healthy, weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces, but was killed within hours of birth.

Her actions did not end there. Dzinguviene, who was 28 at the time, had previously committed a similar atrocity in her homeland of Lithuania. In April 2009, she murdered her infant daughter, Paulina, by suffocating her with a plastic bag and then hiding her body in a suitcase. The Lithuanian authorities described this murder as particularly brutal. She later admitted to the killing, and the court in Kaunas sentenced her to 15 years in prison for this crime. The case was considered especially heinous because the child was killed in a helpless state, and her body was found hidden in a suitcase, which was later discarded in an attic.

After moving to Scotland with her husband, Arunas, and their three children, Dzinguviene continued her tragic pattern. She was pregnant when she arrived in Fraserburgh in February 2010, but she denied her pregnancy when questioned by her husband. She gave birth to her son in April 2010, and within hours, she murdered him. The details of her actions were revealed during her trial, where pathologists confirmed she held clingfilm over her baby's face until he died. Her body was then placed in a holdall, with a Tesco carrier bag over his head, and hidden behind a carpet in the shared hallway of her flat.

Following her arrest, Dzinguviene initially denied any involvement in her son's death. However, evidence presented at her trial, including forensic analysis, proved that she was responsible. She was convicted by a jury at the High Court in Livingston of murdering her son, and a European arrest warrant was issued for her in connection with her earlier crime in Lithuania.

In 2011, she was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison for smothering her newborn son, Paulius. The court described her actions as extremely serious and tragic. The judge deferred her sentencing to allow for a background report to be prepared, and she faces the possibility of deportation to Lithuania after serving her sentence there, where she would continue to serve her 15-year term for the murder of her daughter, Paulina.

During the proceedings, advocate depute Alex Prentice KC stated that both children were born healthy, but their cause of death was asphyxiation. He explained that Paulius was smothered with clingfilm, while Paulina was killed with a plastic bag. Both bodies were subsequently concealed in suitcases or travel bags. The court also heard that Dzinguviene's appeal against her murder conviction was based on new evidence related to her mental state at the time of her son's death, which emerged following psychotherapy sessions in prison. The appeal court set aside her conviction, citing diminished responsibility, and authorized a re-trial. Dzinguviene admitted to killing her child but claimed she had no memory of the events.

Medical assessments revealed that she has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, and 'Battered Woman Syndrome.' Lady Poole, the presiding judge, described the case as 'serious and tragic' and ordered that she remain in custody until her sentencing hearing scheduled for the following month.

In her native Lithuania, Dzinguviene's crimes have also garnered significant attention. The Lithuanian authorities confirmed her conviction for the murder of her daughter Paulina in 2009, describing the killing as particularly brutal. The case involved the discovery of the child's body in a suitcase, which was later found in an attic after the family had moved to Scotland. Prosecutors in Lithuania have expressed their intent to seek her extradition for questioning regarding the child's death, emphasizing that forensic evidence and post-mortem reports support the case against her. The Lithuanian authorities have indicated they have done everything possible to pursue justice, but Dzinguviene remains in Scotland, where she faces further legal proceedings related to her crimes.

Her disturbing history continues to evoke shock and concern, highlighting the tragic consequences of her actions across two nations and the devastating impact on the families involved.
