FATHER FINED FOR PUNCHING TEENAGERS AT YOUTH FOOTBALL MATCH
A father named Ian Scobie, aged 44, was fined £1,500 after punching two teenagers during a boys' football match. He was present at Blairgowrie's Davie Park on 30 August last year while watching his son play for Monifieth.
During the match, he hit two rival supporters.
The referee ended the under-16 match after being threatened by supporting women and a player being bitten.
Scobie was convicted of assault at Perth Sheriff Court.
One of his victims, aged 16, stated: "He grabbed me by the throat and punched me.
My nose was swollen.
He grabbed (my friend) by the scruff and punched him to the ground." His solicitor, Kevin Hampton, explained: "This man doesn't dispute he slapped the boys because these boys were about to slap him.
They were saying things about people getting stabbed after the game and called him 'Dundee minks'." Mr.
Hampton also noted that the referee's report mentioned an incident where a player bit another until he bled.
Scobie admitted calling the parents to apologize and said: "I called the parents of the football team to apologize for my actions.
I slapped one and pushed the other.
I hold my hands up to what I've done - it's not like me." Sheriff Fiona Tait clarified that although he was a first offender, his conduct involving assault on minors was "altogether unacceptable."
