IAN PRICE FROM MAYHILL SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ASSAULTS IN CARDIFF AND NEARBY AREAS
Ian Price, a 44-year-old man residing in Mayhill, has been handed a prison sentence of 27 months following a series of brutal assaults on his former partner. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of violence and coercion that Price inflicted during their tumultuous relationship.According to the court, Price engaged in repeated acts of physical violence during heated disputes with his ex-partner. These assaults included slapping her across the head and face, actions that caused her significant distress and physical pain. At one point, he prevented her from leaving their shared residence, escalating the situation into what the court described as a ‘hostage scenario’. During one particularly violent episode, Price grabbed her by the neck, pushed her into a dishwasher, which caused her to lose consciousness briefly. He further assaulted her by throwing her across the floor into a fridge, demonstrating a reckless disregard for her safety.
In addition to these physical attacks, Price jumped on top of his victim and held her down, all while hurling aggressive and threatening words. The court heard that his behavior was part of a broader pattern of control and intimidation, aimed at dominating his partner through violence and verbal abuse. Recorder Christopher Felstead characterized the relationship as ‘volatile,’ emphasizing that Price’s actions were driven by a desire to exert total control over his partner. The court also noted that Price called her ‘foul and disgusting names,’ further illustrating the emotional abuse she endured.
Price pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage. His admission of guilt was a significant aspect of the case, which highlighted the severity of his actions and the danger posed to his victim.
Commenting on the case, South Wales Police’s PC Andrea Jones expressed her concern and relief. She stated, “Ian Price is an extremely jealous man who acted violently due to fears that his partner might re-enter previous relationships or engage with other men. He needed total control for security, and when that was threatened, he resorted to violence. We are glad that he is now behind bars and that his victim can feel safe again.”
Price’s sentencing underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address domestic violence and protect victims from abusive partners. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of controlling behavior and the importance of seeking help and justice in such situations.
