WICK MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND LIFELONG SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION
A Wick man has been sentenced to prison for six and a half years after being found guilty of raping a woman in Wick in October of the previous year.
Ian Nyman, aged 45 and residing at West Way, Wick, was sentenced at Chichester Crown Court on Thursday, June 30.
He has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Police officials reported that the victim came forward the day after the incident and provided testimony against Nyman.
The judge noted that Nyman’s 'no comment' interview with police, conducted when he was arrested, could be used as an inference of guilt.
The jury took less than 90 minutes to reach a unanimous guilty verdict, indicating strong evidence against him.
Detective constable Stuart McPherson from the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit expressed hope that the victim will now find some closure after enduring a traumatic experience that left her emotionally drained for months.
