IAN HUTCHISON FROM ABERDEEN CONVICTED OVER CHILD SEXUAL IMAGE OFFENSES

Ian Hutchison, a 31-year-old resident of Aberdeen, has been found guilty of serious crimes involving the possession and creation of indecent images of children. The case came to light after law enforcement authorities in Aberdeen received intelligence that linked Hutchison's IP address to the distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material. This intelligence prompted a thorough investigation, culminating in a police operation on August 3, 2021.

During this operation, officers executed a search warrant at Hutchison's residence in Aberdeen. The search yielded significant evidence, including a mobile device that contained a total of 46 illegal images. These images depicted boys and girls aged between just 1 and 15 years old, with 18 of them classified as the most severe Category A images, indicating the highest level of harm and depravity.

Hutchison was subsequently taken into custody and faced charges related to the possession and creation of these illicit images. He admitted to the offences, which spanned from October 23, 2020, to February 18, 2021. Additionally, he confessed to failing to attend a previous court hearing, further complicating his legal situation.

During the court proceedings, Hutchison's defense team argued that there was no sexual motivation behind his actions. They claimed that his conduct was an ill-conceived attempt to escape an abusive relationship, which Hutchison described as 'extremely ill-thought out and ill-advised.' He explained that he was experiencing significant mental health issues at the time, which he is now actively addressing with professional help.

The presiding Sheriff considered all aspects of the case and ultimately decided on a sentence that aimed to rehabilitate rather than punish through incarceration. Hutchison was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and was placed under supervision for a period of two years. The court also imposed strict conduct requirements concerning his internet use, as part of the conditions to prevent further offences. Furthermore, Hutchison was mandated to register as a sex offender, a legal requirement that will follow him for a specified period.

In a positive development, Hutchison has reported that he now has a new partner and has distanced himself from the conduct that led to his conviction.
