BARROW MUAY THAI FIGHTER IAN DAVIDSON JAILED AFTER 'BATTERING' EX
Ian Davidson, of Raleigh Street, Barrow, was jailed at Preston Crown Court after he ‘battered’ his former partner ‘remorselessly’ before restricting her ability to breath.His Honour Judge Philip Parry told the court the victim believed she was going to die at the hands of the defendant after he had ‘beaten her senselessly’ in her hallway.
The court heard Davidson – age 38 - and his ex-girlfriend had been in a relationship for around four months when he demonstrated ‘reprehensible behaviour’ on the evening of February 13 this year.
The parties had been out drinking in Barrow when they returned to the victim’s address around 2:30 am and continued boozing and taking cocaine, the court was told.
Around 6am Davidson started ‘acting in a bizarre way’ and became paranoid when he started looking through the woman’s phone asking her who she had been contacting.
He left the house for several hours but continued to act strangely upon his return, the court heard.
“Things then turned particularly dark, violent and sinister,” Judge Parry said.
“You closed the curtains and slapped her.
She tried to leave but you pulled her back by her hair.
You said you’d break all of her bones in her body and scar her for life.
“Trying to figure out how to get away, she picked up a vodka bottle and used it to strike you.
She ran for her life but you caught up with her and then repeatedly punched and kicked her to her body and face.
There were blood splatters on the wall and on the front door.
You battered her remorselessly.
The court heard the defendant then dragged the woman along the floor and strangled her.
He only stopped when the victim’s flatmate came to her rescue.
The woman sustained a residual scar to the right side of her upper lip as a result of the assault, the court was told.
In her victim impact statement, she told police the scars were a ‘constant reminder’ of what had happened.
She added how she had suffered from panic attacks, anxiety and a fear about encountering the defendant in public.
“When you get angry in drink and drugs in intimate relationships, you are nothing short of a bully towards women who are weaker than you,” Judge Parry told the defendant.
“Strangulation is a form of control.
This was reprehensible behaviour.” Davidson was also sentenced for a separate assault on a stranger during a night out at the Knights Sports Bar in Barrow at 1:25 am on April 15, 2024.
The victim there was punched by Davidson, who claimed his striking was typical of a professional Muay Thai fighter.
The victim suffered a misaligned jaw, head injury, anxiety, PTSD, and required dental treatment.
Davidson pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and criminal damage, and was convicted after a three-day trial of wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH) without intent and intentional strangulation.
He has 18 previous convictions for 30 offences, including eight for battery and two for violence against former partners.
He was previously jailed in 2020 for striking a former partner and strangling her.
The court sentenced Davidson to three years and eight months imprisonment and imposed a 10-year restraining order against his former partner.
