SELBY PAEDOPHILE IAN CARL THOMPSON JAILED AGAIN FOR INTERNET AND CAMERA OFFENCES
A paedophile who attempted to evade police surveillance less than a week after being released from prison has now been re-imprisoned.
Ian Carl Thompson of Selby was originally sentenced in 2023 for sexually assaulting a child, voyeurism, and possessing and creating indecent images of children.
Prosecutor Kathryn Walters described him as a 'high risk offender.' York Crown Court mandated police supervision for him and imposed restrictions on his internet use for 10 years via a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
Additionally, he is registered as a sex offender for life.
Sentencing him, Judge Simon Hickey stated: 'Quite clearly you had an unhealthy and illegal interest in young females.' Thompson was released on May 8 this year on prison licence halfway through a sentence of two years and ten months.
When police visited him on May 14, they discovered he had violated the court order by concealing his online activities.
His solicitor, Abbi Whelan, explained he had used his phone to view sexual images and had deleted his browser history to hide his activity, acknowledging he knew he should not have done it.
Thompson, 56, of New Millgate, Selby, admitted breaching his SHPO and was sentenced to 10 months in jail by magistrates, who also revoked his licence, meaning he continues to serve his original sentence.
The police had also found that Thompson had deliberately concealed a camera for covert filming of a child, along with videos and photos of a child on his phone, as well as following girls aged 15 to 18 on TikTok.
When police examined his mobile, they discovered he refused to provide its PIN, but evidence showed he had hidden various illicit materials and had been involved in illegal online activities shortly after release.
Thompson’s history and recent breaches highlight his ongoing sexual predatory behavior and disregard for court orders designed to monitor and restrict his actions.
