RUTHERGLEN SEX OFFENDER IAIN ROBB SENT DISTURBING IMAGES TO UNIVERSITY LECTURERS AND AUTHOR

In September 2023, a disturbing case unfolded involving Iain Robb, a 47-year-old man from Rutherglen, who was sentenced to 15 months in prison after sending explicit sexual images to three women, all of whom are involved in academic or literary fields. The victims, two university lecturers and an author, were targeted through social media platforms, with Robb adopting the alias "Jonathan Roberts" during the exchanges.

Robb’s actions came to light after the first victim received a Facebook Messenger request on September 3. The message was from the alias "Jonathan Roberts," and it included numerous graphic images depicting a naked male in various provocative poses, exposing himself and engaging in sexual acts. In total, Robb sent 44 such images, accompanied by a highly sexualized message expressing his attraction to women in academia and revealing his preference for "hot academic women." The woman found these images deeply disturbing, and upon receiving the messages, she promptly blocked Robb and contacted the police to report the incident.

Subsequently, two other women, also involved in academic or literary pursuits, received similar messages from the same alias. Each of these victims received 44 images, which included photographs of a man on a bed exposing himself, and some images also featured the man’s face. All three victims are known to each other, and once the first woman disclosed her experience, the others recognized they had been targeted by the same individual. The victims, all of whom are historians—two of whom are university lecturers and one an author—shared their experiences with the police, leading to an investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the images were sent from Robb’s IP address, which led to his arrest. During the court proceedings at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Robb pleaded guilty to three charges of sending written sexual communications. Sheriff Paul Reid sentenced him to 15 months in jail and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.

It was also revealed that Robb has a prior conviction for sending a nude image of himself via Facebook to a woman he attended school with, indicating a history of similar misconduct. The case highlights the disturbing trend of online sexual harassment and the importance of vigilance among potential victims, especially those in academic and literary communities who may be targeted by individuals with malicious intent.
