HUGH LYNN SENTENCED IN ALCESTER FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE OF 8-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN WARWICKSHIRE
In a significant case that has resonated throughout Warwickshire, Hugh Lynn, a 58-year-old resident of Hertford Road in Alcester, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in an attempted sexual assault against an eight-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in 2006, led to a court hearing at Warwick Crown Court where justice was ultimately served.During the proceedings, Lynn was handed an eleven-year prison sentence for the attempted rape. Additionally, the court imposed a five-year sentence for indecent assault, which was to run concurrently with the primary sentence. The judge clarified that Lynn would be required to serve a minimum of five and a half years before becoming eligible for parole, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the need for justice.
Following the sentencing, Peter Herring, the investigating officer involved in the case, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. He stated, “We are satisfied with this result. We would like to think that this positive result will encourage others who have been subjected to abuse to come forward and speak to the police.” Herring highlighted the challenging nature of the case, noting that it was essentially a matter of the victim’s word against that of the accused. Despite this, Lynn was found guilty in court and is now serving his sentence.
Herring also issued a stern warning to potential offenders, saying, “Anyone who commits this kind of offence should understand that just because their victim is a child, it doesn’t mean they will get away with it.” He praised the bravery of the young girl, who, despite her tender age, had to undergo the ordeal of giving evidence in court. Her testimony was instrumental in securing Lynn’s conviction, demonstrating the importance of speaking out against abuse and the justice system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable victims.
