HESKETH WATTS SENT TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BESTWOOD
In August 2019, a disturbing case unfolded involving a man named Hesketh Watts, who was ultimately convicted and sentenced for engaging in sexual activities with a young girl. The incident came to light after the victim's father, concerned about her recent behavior, confiscated her mobile phone in March of that year. During a thorough examination of the device, he discovered a series of troubling text messages between his daughter and Watts, revealing that Watts had been in communication with her about having had sex, despite her being only 13 years old.Alarmed by this evidence, the father promptly reported his findings to the police. Law enforcement officials acted swiftly, leading to Watts's arrest at his residence in Bestwood on March 22. During the arrest, officers seized multiple mobile devices belonging to Watts, which later confirmed the content of the messages and established a clear pattern of grooming and inappropriate communication.
At the time of his arrest, Watts was found in possession of cannabis, scales, and deal bags, indicating involvement in drug-related activities. Initially, Watts denied the allegations during police interviews, attempting to dismiss the accusations. However, he later admitted to the charges in court, pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child aged 13 and possessing drugs with intent to supply, classified as Class B substances.
On Monday, August 5, 2019, Watts was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to a total of five years and two months in prison. The court also ordered him to register as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes. Additionally, Watts was subjected to a five-year sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order, designed to protect the victim and prevent any further contact or harm.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance among parents and the critical role of law enforcement in addressing and prosecuting crimes involving minors and grooming. The sentencing sends a clear message about the consequences of such offenses and the commitment of the justice system to safeguarding vulnerable individuals in communities like Bestwood.
