TEARS AS WIFE KILLER IS JAILED
A DEVOTED husband who strangled his alcoholic wife after enduring years of her drinking was jailed for 18 months yesterday.
Henry Mason, 50, wiped tears from his eyes as a court heard he still visits his wife's grave every day.
Mason killed Rosina - his wife of 30 years and mother of their five children - after she went on a late night drinking binge.
Mason, of Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire, admitted culpable homicide by strangling his 45-year-old wife in September last year.
Mason, who had been charged with murder, admitted a reduced charge of culpable homicide when he appeared at the High Court in Aberdeen in July.
The case was adjourned to the High Court in Stonehaven until yesterday to establish if Mason could lodge a defence of diminished responsibility.
The Crown said yesterday it had accepted culpable homicide and the door was open for the judge to hold there was diminished responsibilty on the grounds of the accused's state of mind based on psychological reports.
