HAYLEY PERRY OF TORQUAY CONVICTED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY INVOLVING UNDERWEIGHT DOGS

Hayley Perry, born on July 13, 1966, and residing at Teignmouth Road in Torquay, has been found guilty of severe animal neglect involving eight dogs kept in her care. Perry, who previously operated as a breeder under the name Saxonike, specialized in breeds such as Akitas, Huskies, and Eurasiers. Her former residence was on Marldon Road, Shiphay, but her current address is listed as Teignmouth Road, Torquay TQ1 4RS.

According to court records, Perry was responsible for the welfare of these eight dogs between March 7 and April 4, 2016. During this period, she failed to investigate or address the significant weight loss observed in the animals, which is a violation of Section 4 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006. The court also found that Perry did not provide a suitable environment for five of the dogs, neglecting their basic needs and failing to ensure they received proper veterinary care, in breach of Section 9 of the same Act.

Animal welfare authorities, including RSPCA inspector Jim Farr, emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership. Inspector Farr stated, “People have a responsibility to look after their animals properly and to make sure all their needs are met and need to ensure they receive the proper veterinary treatment and care when they need it.”

Despite her conviction, Perry attempted to appeal the court’s decision, but her appeal was unsuccessful. As a result of the proceedings, three dogs that remained in her care were confiscated by authorities. Additionally, five other dogs, which had previously been signed over to the RSPCA, were rehabilitated and successfully rehomed.

In sentencing, Perry was ordered to pay £1,000 in costs and was banned from keeping dogs for a period of ten years, a ban that will expire in January 2027. This case highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare and the responsibilities of pet owners in the Torquay area.
