MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND AFTER HEARING HIM TALK TO ANOTHER WOMAN OVER BABY MONITOR
A mother overheard her boyfriend speaking to another woman via a baby monitor.Up until that point, Hassan Mahmood’s relationship with his partner had been peaceful, as the Birmingham Crown Court was informed.
However, the relationship soured and ended after he physically assaulted her while she was pregnant on June 8 of this year.
The pregnant woman had asked Mahmood to get out of bed and assist with their other child.
In response, he accused her of scratching his car and called her a 'f***ing b****.' Mahmood then forcefully pressed his fingers into her face and slammed her phone out of her hand.
He admitted to assaulting her and was sentenced to six weeks in prison on Friday, November 28.
Since he had been detained since June, he was told he would be released immediately.
Recorder Kevin Hegarty KC told him: "You know this was entirely wrong, completely inappropriate, and I believe you recognize it’s not something to be repeated." Mahmood, who now resides in Hayes with a new partner, was also issued a restraining order.
Prosecutor Collin Phillips stated: "The defendant and the complainant have a young child together.
At the time of the incident, she was 14 weeks pregnant with their second child." He explained: "Their relationship was fine until she overheard the defendant speaking to another woman over the baby monitor." The assault occurred later at the couple’s home in Great Barr.
Mr Phillips added: "She asked the defendant to get out of bed to help with their son.
After he got up, he accused her of scratching his vehicle." "He became aggressive and used threatening language, calling her a 'f***ing b****.' Then he pressed his fingers against her cheeks and threw her phone out of her hand." In her statement, the victim said: "I'm scared and can't trust him.
I feel gaslighted.
The lies and the cheating make me doubt my own senses." Defense lawyer Arron Payne, representing Mahmood, said he had worked as a salesman at Mercedes-Benz in Coventry before his detention and emphasized that the incident was uncharacteristic for him.
He explained that the main cause of his actions was cannabis use, which he had ceased while in custody.
He also stated: "He wants to get his life back on track, return to work, and has a supportive new family."
