SEX OFFENDER PRESSED BARE GENITALS AGAINST MOTHER ON TUBE IN FRONT OF HER CHILD
A man identified as Hasan Degirmenci has been convicted and sentenced to prison after a disturbing incident aboard a London Tube train, where he engaged in public sexual harassment in front of a woman and her young daughter.The event took place in the early evening of December 2nd, when the woman, who was traveling with her 12-year-old daughter, boarded a Piccadilly Line train heading toward Knightsbridge.
The incident unfolded amidst the usual crowd, making it particularly alarming.
According to reports, the woman initially felt an uncomfortable pressure from behind as they travelled.
Her concern escalated when her daughter, witnessing the incident, observed Degirmenci pushing his groin against her mother with his trousers down, exposing his genitals.
Degirmenci, aged 34, whose residence is listed as Enfield, was quickly identified and confronted by the victim as the train approached Knightsbridge station.
The woman and her daughter followed him off the train as he continued to hold his trousers down, moving toward the station’s ticket barriers.
It was there that they managed to alert station staff about the assault.
British Transport Police officers responded swiftly and arrested Degirmenci at the scene.
Subsequently, Degirmenci appeared before Magistrates at Highbury Corner on December 20th, where he admitted to committing a sexual assault and indecent exposure.
His guilty plea led to immediate sentencing.
Last week, at Inner London Crown Court, he received a prison term of 16 months.
In addition to incarceration, Degirmenci was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, and a five-year sexual harm prevention order was imposed to restrict his future activities.
The prosecution was led by Detective Constable Kathryn Faine, who emphasized the severity of the offense.
She stated, “This incident was extremely alarming and distressing both for the woman and her young daughter.
He targeted the victim in a crowded environment for his own sexual gratification, and I hope his jail term sends a clear message to anyone who exhibits this type of behaviour on the network – it simply won’t be tolerated.” Representatives from Transport for London also condemned the act.
Mandy McGregor, TfL’s head of policing and community safety, remarked, “This was an appalling incident.
No one should ever experience sexual harassment on our network, and we are working closely with the British Transport Police to make the transport network a hostile place for offenders.
We urge anyone who experiences or witnesses this kind of behaviour to report it immediately to police or station staff.
The sooner incidents are reported, the stronger the evidence we have to ensure justice is served and prevent further offenses.” This case highlights the ongoing efforts by police and transit authorities to combat sexual harassment on public transport, emphasising that such misconduct will be met with firm legal repercussions.
