HARRY AGATE FROM DOGSTHORPE JAILED FOR FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH SEX OFFENDER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS IN PETERBOROUGH

In September 2023, Harry Agate, a registered sex offender from Dogsthorpe, was sentenced to prison after failing to adhere to the strict notification obligations imposed upon him by law. Agate, aged 28, had been placed on the Sex Offenders Register in 2017, a legal requirement that mandates individuals to inform police within three days of any significant changes to their personal circumstances. These include alterations to their address, aliases, bank accounts, or passports.

On May 20, 2022, specialist officers tasked with monitoring violent and sexual offenders conducted a visit to Agate’s registered address in Peterborough. During this visit, they were informed by Agate that he had already moved out some time prior, following a dispute with his housemate. This revelation was significant because it indicated that Agate had not updated his contact details with the authorities as required by law. Despite being told he no longer resided at the registered address, Agate was later found to be without a fixed abode, complicating efforts to locate him.

Subsequently, police arrested Agate, and he pleaded guilty to the charge of failing to comply with his notification requirements. His failure to keep authorities informed led to his sentencing at Cambridge Crown Court, where he received a custodial sentence of one year and four months. The case underscores the importance of compliance with sex offender registration laws and the consequences of neglecting these legal obligations.

In addition to this incident, Agate’s criminal record includes an earlier charge from July 2020, when he was accused of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). At that time, he was 24 years old and living in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough. He was arrested at his home and subsequently charged with two counts of violating the SHPO, specifically for failing to notify police about electronic devices in his possession. This breach raised concerns about his compliance with restrictions designed to prevent further harm.

Following his arrest in July 2020, Agate was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court. His repeated breaches of legal orders highlight ongoing issues with adherence to conditions set to protect the community from potential harm.
