ABERTILLERY MAN HARRISON SCRIVEN JAILED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man has been given a prison sentence for his heinous treatment of his former partner.Harrison Scriven, aged 22, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court to over three years behind bars for conduct described by Judge Recorder Celia Hughes as degrading and condemnable, especially considering his supposed role as her caregiver.
The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that she no longer recognizes herself and feels unable to lead the life she once dreamed of due to the abuse inflicted by Scriven.
Among the most disturbing acts was Scriven forcing her to change her sanitary towel in his presence as a form of humiliation.
Their relationship, which began positively after meeting at work in January 2022, quickly deteriorated.
In March, after discovering a Snapchat message from her, Scriven erupted in a four-hour argument.
A week later, violence escalated when he kicked a bag of glass bottles she was carrying, shattering them into her hand and kicking her shin.
That same evening, he burned her legs with cigarette butts and refused her sleep.
He also isolated her socially, preventing contact with friends or family.
In September, he threatened her with a Stanley knife to her throat, causing her to end the relationship.
Later, in summer 2022, following another confrontation, he broke a vodka bottle and again threatened her with a knife.
From December 2022 onwards, Scriven issued a series of abusive messages, including threats to kill her, wishes for her to have cancer, threats to throw her into a river, and threats to harm her nephews.
In April 2023, he chased her in a friend's car, and in September, after attending an event with her, he attacked her when she wished to go to bed early.
Victims' statements highlighted the profound impact of his actions, with one saying, “I do not know who I am anymore.
I feel lost and do not recognize myself.
I will never live the life I want due to the fear he's caused.” His partner reported that after a September incident, she couldn't leave her mother’s side and experienced days of not eating and crying incessantly.
Scriven admitted guilt to three charges—coercive behavior, assault causing actual bodily harm, and assault by beating—all on September 9.
He received a sentence of three years and nine weeks and was ordered to two restraining orders, each valid for five years, to protect the victims.
