HAROLD BURKE FROM COLERAINE FACES SERIOUS CHARGES INVOLVING SEXUAL OFFENCES AND CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

In a series of disturbing legal proceedings, Harold Burke, a resident of Coleraine, has been at the center of multiple criminal allegations involving sexual offences and the possession of indecent images of children.

On a recent Friday, Burke appeared before the North Antrim Magistrates’ Court to face charges related to a breach of a sexual offences prevention order. The 50-year-old, residing on Quilly Road in Coleraine, was accused of violating the terms of the order, which was put in place to restrict his conduct following previous offences. The court also heard that Burke was charged with the improper use of a public electronic communications device, specifically a mobile phone.

The prosecution revealed that Burke had sent a message via his mobile phone that was considered to be indecent and offensive in nature. This incident was alleged to have taken place sometime between November 10 and December 19 of the previous year, raising concerns about his compliance with the court’s restrictions and the potential risk posed by his actions.

Earlier, in December 2003, Burke faced another serious set of allegations. He admitted to possessing and creating child abuse images, with a total of 14 counts of computer-based child abuse images being brought against him. Burke, then aged 44 and working as a supermarket employee, pleaded guilty to these charges at Antrim Crown Court. The court heard that the indecent photographs of children were stored on his computer between January 24 and March 26 of that year.

Judge David McFarlane, presiding over the case, sentenced Burke to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register, emphasizing the severity of his actions and the importance of monitoring individuals convicted of such offences. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of children and the importance of strict enforcement of laws designed to prevent the exploitation and abuse of minors.
