HALIM CHOLMELEY'S CRIMINAL PAST AND STALKING HORROR IN DUNDEE
Halim Cholmeley, a man with a notorious criminal history, has been sentenced to perform 120 hours of unpaid community service following a series of disturbing incidents involving his former partner in Dundee. The court heard that Cholmeley, who was previously involved in a fatal road accident in 2009, had engaged in a relentless month-long campaign of stalking and harassment against his ex-partner, causing significant distress and fear for her and her children. The incident that led to his conviction occurred on July 23 of the previous year at her residence in St Andrews. During a violent altercation, Cholmeley forcibly stomped on her mobile phone, an act that was part of a broader pattern of aggressive behavior. The court was also informed that Cholmeley repeatedly intruded into her property without permission, showing up uninvited multiple times, which heightened her sense of vulnerability and alarm.
Furthermore, Cholmeley blatantly disregarded a court order designed to prevent such harassment. He broke the terms of a non-harassment order almost immediately after it was issued, prompting authorities to place him under supervision for a period of 12 months. His actions included persistent phone calls, text messages, social media communications, and even sending an unwanted gift to her workplace, all of which contributed to the court’s decision to impose strict penalties.
During proceedings, Cholmeley admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner, confirming the allegations of stalking. He expressed a desire to relocate to an area where he would be less recognizable, citing his previous appearances in the press related to his past incidents as a motivating factor. His solicitor described him as remorseful, acknowledging that he struggles with stress and often resorts to alcohol when under pressure. Cholmeley also indicated his intention to move to a more rural area to escape his notoriety.
Cholmeley's criminal record is extensive. Notably, he served a six-year prison sentence for causing the death of taxi driver Gavin McCabe in 2009, after deliberately crashing into the taxi while intoxicated, which resulted in Gavin McCabe’s death and serious injuries to another passenger. His past offenses also include driving without a license or insurance, failing to provide a breath sample, and assaulting a man outside a school. As part of his latest sentence, the court ordered additional community work, imposed bans from driving, and enforced further restrictions to ensure he remains under supervision and away from further criminal activity.
