GYTIS GRISKEVICIUS BRUTALLY MURDERS HIS WIFE IN BOSTON AND TRIES TO SET FLAT ON FIRE

Gytis Griskevicius, a 32-year-old man, has been convicted of the heinous murder of his estranged wife, Marina Erte, aged 33, in her residence located in Boston. The tragic incident occurred on the 20th of May, 2016, and has left the community in shock and mourning.

According to court proceedings, Griskevicius carried out a brutal assault on Marina, which culminated in her drowning in her own bath. The evidence presented revealed that he used a shower attachment to submerge her, inflicting severe injuries in the process. Witnesses testified that Griskevicius was driven by jealousy, particularly over Marina’s new romantic relationship, which appeared to have been a source of tension between them.

Following the murder, Griskevicius attempted to cover up his crime by setting her flat on fire. However, the flames did not spread significantly, and the fire was contained before causing further damage. The victim’s body was discovered by firefighters in her bath, revealing the extent of her injuries. Marina had suffered multiple fractures, including to her eye sockets, nose, and jaw, alongside a traumatic brain injury, which contributed to her death.

At the time of the incident, Griskevicius, a Lithuanian national, was celebrating his birthday. During his trial at Lincoln Crown Court, he maintained a denial of the murder, claiming that he and Marina had engaged in consensual sex and that she was 'fine' when he left her. Despite his assertions, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him of murder.

The judge sentenced Griskevicius to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 23 years before he could be considered for parole. The judge emphasized that Griskevicius showed no remorse for his actions and had inflicted brutal injuries upon his wife.

Marina’s family expressed their profound grief and sorrow over her loss, describing her as a 'much loved mother, daughter, sister and friend.' They mourned her passing deeply, stating that her death has 'left a big void' in their lives, and paying tribute to her memory amidst their heartbreak.
